Y'all, I just listened to a sermon about why Gen Z is so different from previous generations. The speaker was Ken Ham, one of the founders of Answers in Genesis, the same people who also created the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum. Regardless of all of that, I found myself very intrigued by what he said purely because it made sense. My generation is so different from the previous one because we have lost our foundation.
What do I mean by this? If you haven't noticed, things are very different about the America we live in now. Protests, violence, riots, and increasing confusion and ignorance about right and wrong. Everything in this generation is relative. There is no absolute truth just feelings. It may be hard for some to understand what that means because feelings are just feelings, right? We have to get over them because they come and go. Here in lies the problem, my generation doesn't know how to do that because they are not being taught.
Increasingly, kids/teens are becoming the "governments" problem. Where does the government put them? Public school. The problem with public school is that God is not recognized as The God but as one of many. Now, I know that God is the God of creation, the One True God. But others my age don't because they are being taught that essentially, they are gods. Their feelings are all that matter. If they want to be transgender they can be transgender, if they feel attracted to the same sex it's normal, and the list goes on.
I'm going to be blunt. It isn't the government's job to teach kids/teens alike how to behave, what is true, etc. It is the parent's job. As believers, it isn't the Church's job alone to teach kids/teens alike how to behave, what is true, etc. it is the parent's job. The Church is merely a tool.
My generation is imploding because the responsibilities of teaching are being delegated to those who are not designed to handle them. And what happens is then confusion, lack of foundation, and the total washing of the hands of Christianity as 'not worth it.' When my generation has questions, the answers given don't satisfy because they are being presented in a way they do not understand. It all starts in the home and what we are learning, or not learning, from our parents. And as believers, if it isn't being taught in the home, by our parents, that this world we live in is NOT what God designed and the only reason it is messed up is because of OUR SIN, the chances of us hearing and believing it anywhere else are slim to none.
Mr. Ham pointed out something that changed my perspective on how to share the Gospel. He said that most people when they read the Bible, start in the New Testament. The problem there is that the New Testament comes AFTER the Old Testament. He pointed out that the Gospel being preached today carries only the message of Good News but offers no explanation as to the Bad News and how the good came to be in the first place. It starts in Genesis. That is the foundation, the piece missing. After the foundation, comes the power of the message and the hope but it's ALL the Gospel (Genesis 1-11-Revelation). If you miss the foundation, the rest doesn't make sense. I didn't explain that exactly the way he did so it likely may come across as missing something or confusing. I challenge those reading to watch the whole video themselves and see what they think (https://youtu.be/SFmICArs4Sg).
Generation Z is labeled the least religious generation yet. And it's showing no sign of changing. They've stopped attending Church because Church is more about entertainment than Biblical Truth. Thus, they do not get the answers they are seeking, they leave dissatisfied and often more confused than before. Here is the reality about this, we are the next generation, the one who will be teaching the generation coming after us. We are being taught that everything is relative, so what do you think will be passed down to those coming after us? What is going to be done about it?
